9 ways the new Real Time List gets more done - faster

Today, something exciting is happening with the List. The list has gone real-time and it’s already powering our team’s productivity. There are nine awesome enhancements that are making it faster and easier than ever before to work together on projects. I use the List heavily and now with real-time , I find myself using the List in different ways than before!

All of these features are available today to all Assembla users and now, you can  opt-in to enable the feature. Self-selection of new features has been a request from our customers and we know this is a much better experience overall. For existing users, whether you enable the feature via Ticket Settings or you opt-in via the new in-app feature Banner you will get to check out the new feature. You can always come back to the Settings page to opt-out if the old list is more preferrable. New users get the real-time list by default.


1. The Real-Time List

WHY: Always be in the know and working with the most updated information.

WHAT: When anyone on a team makes changes to tickets, it is shown in real-time on the cardwall with no need to refresh the page. We now know instantly about changes such as any time any team member:

  • Creates a new ticket
  • Edits anything in an existing ticket (priority, assignment, details, status, etc.)
  • Drags and drop a ticket to another group
  • Sort
  • Custom Filters
  • Export Reports to Excel

2. Customize your Group

WHY: Be in control of your Cardwall’s prioritization so you see your cards in the order that’s right for you.

WHAT: You can now opt out of ordering cards by priority and arrange them as you like them. Simple select “Do not sort” and then drag and drop cards as you like. Then, easily select to have them sorted by priority again.

 


3. Faster Filters

WHY: Quickly see only what’s important to you without distractions.

WHAT: You can now create custom reports and filter Cardwall views faster than ever. The streamlined interface is more intuitive and enables you to create views for the specific workflows used by your team.

As always, you can save your filters for easy access to the views that are most helpful for the way you work.

 


4. Drag and Drop

WHY: Make organizing tasks easy by dragging and dropping as you see fit.

When anyone on a team makes changes to tickets in a list, it is shown in real-time on the list, like-wise moving tasks from one group to another should feel natural. The real time list makers this possible allowing you to get more done faster.

 


5. In-List Quick Creation of Tickets

WHY: Quickly log new items as tickets right where you are.

WHAT: At the top and bottom of each cardwall column, there is a “+” icon to launch the creation of a new ticket. The status of the ticket will automatically populate according to the column from which it was created.

 


6. In-List Quick Edit of Tickets

WHY: Easily edit tickets within the cardwall.

WHAT: You will notice a new “Edit” pencil icon on each card on your wall. Clicking it will give you quick access to edit all of your ticket’s basic and custom fields, just like in the ticket itself. You can quickly update the values of:

  • Status
  • Priority
  • Assignment
  • Milestone
  • Plan level
  • Tags
  • Description

Being able to edit tickets from this view, reduces the number of steps required to make changes making it seamless to manage the project’s tasks from a single place: your Cardwall!

 


7. Export

WHY: Easily export your ticket list to CSV, XML and PDF

WHAT: You will notice a export button on the top left of the list. Clicking it will export the tickets to a CSV file, an XML file or Print/PDF for easy import into other tools such as Excel. Another bonus is that the export function is now asynchronous meaning it won't block your workflow whiles its collecting the content to export for you! A simple yet very popular feature for all of our PM's out there!

 


8. Quick Relations

WHY: Easily visualize status of all related tasks.

WHAT: Often lists have many tasks (sometimes even hundreds!) and it becomes challenging to find the items that are related to a specific epic. Now, there is a new icon that, when clicked, will filter the list to show only the related tickets. It is now easier to see progress on all related tasks and identify roadblocks. This is the same UI as we have in the real time cardwall.


9. Bulk Changes

WHY: Quickly change the properties of several tickets

real-time-list-bulk.gifWHAT: Often lists have many tasks and it becomes really challenging to update all of them at once. For example, at the end of a sprint it would be nice to move all unfinished work to the next sprint! Now, there is a simple integrated UI to bulk change tickets right in the list - no more going to a separate tool to do this. It is now easier to stay in the same workflow and get more done faster.

 

How do I opt-out?

If you prefer the old list static view no problem! You can turn off the real time list by going to the Ticket Settings and checking the Ticket List option and changing it to Old List. Below is a quick overview of the process:
