Do More Directly From the Assembla Web App: New Repo UX Adds Functionality, Streamlines User Workflow

Amanda Pinchbeck on September 15, 2017

We recently updated our UI/UX to empower our users to do more directly from the Assembla WebApp. The upgraded UI/UX extends across SVN, Git, and Perforce repos and creates a more user friendly experience, particularly for nontechnical users.

All of the major changes are detailed here, so don’t worry, you’ll still be able to find all of the features you need!

The Update

We’ve optimized our front end to handle large datasets, regardless of repo size.

We’ve also allowed users to create over 20 file types (JavaScript, PHP, C# and more) as well as file directories directly from the repo - no desktop client required. For more on how to create new files and folders from the web app, check out our help center.

Image previews are also now available in the web app, the perfect shortcut for your designers. Simply click on the image file you wish to view and a preview will be available without opening or checking out the related file.

The checkout URL and dump download buttons have also moved: check out their new location side by side with their previous locations.

Our commit page now makes it easier to collaborate on commits with up and down voting as well as comments on commits. Additionally, users can now easily add affected tickets and followers to a commit by simply searching the ticket or user’s name. To learn more about the new commits page, check out our help center.

Coming soon

The updates don’t stop there. Users will soon be able to edit their code directly from the web app. Need to make a quick change? Edit and commit that change in seconds without ever opening your desktop client. The process for this is as simple as viewing the file you wish to change, selecting edit, and then making the required changes.

We’re excited to see what our users will be able to accomplish with a more intuitive repo experience. The UI/UX upgrade is just one of the ways that we are providing our users the most seamless enterprise cloud version control experience available.
