Hidden feature - email to messages

Posted by Andy Singleton on Tue, Dec 28, 2010 @ 02:56 PM

Yesterday I got an email from a customer, with an attachment, containing various improvement suggestions.  I was trying to figure out the easiest way to post it for the team.  One of our developers reminded me that I can just email to <url_name>@alerts.assembla.com, and it will appear in the project workspace, as a message, with the attachment.

It is indeed a nice feature, I also use it to create messages. But sometimes this feature is counterproductive. If one of the team members has e-mail notification for message events turned on, and he has an autoreply (e.g., out of office), those replies also appear as message on the Assembla site. And send around to all other people who have e-mail notifications for messages turned on. That's not as it should be.

Not sure, the "X-Mailer" header for normal messages is "Novell GroupWise Internet Agent 8.0.1". I don't know what program generates the out-of-office replies; I don't have one in my mailbox.
