Mar 22nd Release - Better navigation, user activity report, faster tickets

Today's release contains better navigation for Assembla.com, a view that shows you what a user is doing across all of your spaces, and several improvements that will make Assembla.com faster.

New User/Start navigation

You probably already noticed that tour user/start page is right on the Home tab bar, in place of Welcome page.  You can navigate with fewer clicks.  We removed the extra user tab bar because people found it complicated.  For more information about these navigation changes, please see our previous blog article, Changes Coming to the User Start Page.

If you need your old starting dashboard, select "Go to your old start page" on the top right.

Square Tabs

We are now showing plain square tabs.  We removed the rounded background image to make it easier to customize your space or portfolio by changing the tab color in the style sheet (main-menu li).  You can find a place to add space styles under Admin/Appearance with a link to some instructions.

Milestone View in the Agile Planner

Our Agile Planner currently shows a "Story" column on the left and a "Milestones" column on the right. This is a good way to add stories and tasks, and then put them into a milestone schedule.  However, some users requested that milestones be on both sides to make it easy to move tickets from the backlog to the current iteration.   In order to accomodate this we now allow users to toggle both columns between stories and milestones.

User Pictures in the Message Tool

We got a good response to user pictures in the ticket comments, so we added them to the message tool, along with other layout improvements.

Ticket speed improvements and rendering changes

We implemented a new parser for ticket descriptions and comments, in hand-coded C.  This will make tickets render faster and hopefully give you a faster, more fun feeling.  However, in this version, we only implemented the "toolbar" markup, not all textile markup, so you may see that some textile formatting is no longer rendered.

What is Joe doing?  Report on user activity across a whole portfolio

The "user report" is a page that is linked to the team list and the scrum report which shows all of the activity for a user during the past week. This is a very useful way to see what a team member has been working on in that space.  We have extended this feature so that you can see what someone is doing in multiple workspaces. In a portfolio space, in the Portfolio tool/team tab, you will find a list of all team members in your portfolio, and if you select a team member, you will see all of his/her activity and scrum reports.  This is great feature for shops that have their team members work on multiple projects simultaneously.

I have no idea how to navigate easily to the SVN and tickets, all it seems to do is take me to dumb wiki page and there is no links like the old interface.
